So, what is Hydro blasting?

Hydro blasting is a metal finishing process and uses a mix of water and glass beads forced at pressure by air to flow onto the parts being restored. The process has a lot of advantages over conventional sandblasting or bead blasting, as it’s a cleaning and polishing process in one.  Traditional sand blasting will clean but also roughen the surface changing the appearance of the material.  Hydroblasting uses a fine high quality glass bead as our primary media.

All the work is carried out in a enclosed cabinet and the machine has a closed loop water system with a filtered water reservoir requiring little additional water over many weeks.  The water is filtered and reused in the system.

With Hydro blasting, the abrasive / media mix is “pushed” or “flowed” over the surface of the object. The result is a much lower surface roughness and smoother appearance than that of dry blasting.

What is it used for?

Hydro blasting is  ideal for cleaning internal and external surfaces as we are generally able to send the stream of water into places that are difficult to reach using other methods. It is ideal for Aluminum, Alloy, Copper, Cast Iron, Bronze, Magnesium, Titanium, Brass, Plastic, Rubber and other substrates.  It will gently clean and polish the surface.

Hydro blasting is also extensively used in the restoration of aircraft, automotive and motorcycle components. Hydro blasting can also assist in relieving surface stress in metal parts because of the gentle peening action.

Hydro blasting will only remove grime, oxidation and tarnishing in a non-destructive way whilst also gently peening and polishing the surface, closing the pores of the material in some cases.
